SUMMARY:FAIR FASHION FESTIVAL YORK: Fossil Fuel–Free\, Feminist\, and Built for Us.
DESCRIPTION:We’re back\, GTA — transforming fashion\, one thread at a time. The York Fair Fashion Festival is a BIPOC youth-led event rooted in community care\, sustainability\, and resistance to a system that exploits people and the planet. This all-ages gathering brings together youth\, families\, artists\, organizers\, and everyday people to imagine what a just\, circular future can look like\, starting with what we wear. \nAt FFF\, we center the stories and leadership of Black\, Indigenous\, and racialized youth and women who are too often excluded from sustainability conversations\, even though we’ve been doing the work all along. Through clothing swaps\, mending zones\, workshops\, community quilting\, and real talk with change-makers in the space\, we’ll build skills\, share stories\, and take action together. \n✨ Last year\, we kept 2\,000+ pounds of clothing out of landfills\, created jobs for youth\, and brought 200+ people into conversations on fashion justice and circular economies. ✨ This year\, we’re going even deeper — more hands-on workshops\, more space for connection\, more power in our communities. \nBring your friends. Bring your family. Come ready to swap\, stitch\, mend\, and thread a future that’s rooted in equity\, sustainability\, and joy. \nThis is the circular fashion movement — and you’re invited. \nComponents: \n\nMassive clothing swap\, bring 1-10 gently loved items to swap and exchange for new beloved treasures.\nWorkshops: Learn about Extended Producer Responsibility with Threading Change and join Uptown Climate Conversations for a discussion about Climate\, Healthy\, Anxiety\, and Fashion’s Link to it All\nTake part in TC’s Community Quilt: What do you want to change in the fashion industry?\nJoin Oxfam Canada for a Keynote Presentation outlinning the social implication and the current situation on the ground in garment producing countries and TC will host a panel discussion “Threading Circular Futures: Youth Power Leading Community Action”\nNetwork inside our Museum of Changemakers: A Dedicated Space for NGOS and youth-led movements committed to taking action towards achieving the UN’s 17 SDGS\nAlso in the Museum of Changemakers space we will have Oxfam Canada’s Stitch for Change Challenge!\n\nHow to get there: Metro: Line 1: Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Subway Station: yes it it wheel chair accessible! \n\nBus: 20\, 501\, 77\nParking: There is no free on-site parking available as the building does not have a parking lot. There are many paid parking lots available within the vicinity such as: short term on-street parking around the perimeter of the building; there is also parking available at TTC Commuter Lots\, KPMG building\, etc.\n\nNotes: \n\nTo save time at the swap\, pre-fill out the clothing audit form. We collect data on the clothing at our events to better understand the consumption patterns of consumers. It takes 2 minutes\, promise!\nThis is a child-friendly event: we have plenty of space for strollers\, but we will not be providing childcare services on site\nBring a refillable water bottle\, but we will have some refreshments available

Participants will be prompted to put pen to paper\, creating letters of solidarity and action to support a special target to be announced closer to the festival date. Come and discover how a simple letter can spark significant change and join us in a collective act of advocacy. \nTextile Transformation with Threading Change: Shaping Textile Waste Solutions with ECCC \nJoin us for an impactful 10-minute sprint workshop\,  as we delve into Environment Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) recent consultation document addressing the deficiencies in textile and apparel waste recycling systems in Canada. Together\, we will explore the gaps in current fashion and textile frameworks and brainstorm meaningful insights and suggestions on ECCC’s proposed solutions. This workshop aims to pave the way for the government to implement tangible and effective measures. We will engage with participants to consult and provide feedback to the key elements within the proposed framework for addressing the waste from the textile and apparel industry. \nCheck out the schedule below for the workshop timings! \n🧵 WHAT TO EXPECT:\nLEARNING IN THE DAY\, MINGLING IN THE NIGHT! \nOur daytime programming will be centred on education-based and community impact programming. From 1 pm to 6 pm we will be engaging in our clothing swap\, mending workshop\, museum of changemakers\, panel discussions\, Threading Change Quilt Making\, and hosting vendors. However\, we will be accepting donations of any size to support garment workers in Cambodia who work long and tireless hours to make the clothes that we wear everyday. \n🌎 LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:\nWe respectfully acknowledge that this event is taking place on the unceded\, traditional and ancestral territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit\, the Anishnabeg\, the Chippewa\, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. \nTkaronto (Toronto) is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit\, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. Toronto itself is a word that originates from the Mohawk word “Tkaronto\,” meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing\,”. \nToday\, the meeting place of so-called Toronto is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and host this event in this territory. \nAbout Threading Change:\nThe 6F’s: a Feminist\, Fossil-Fuel Free Fashion Future. \nThreading Change is a youth-led\, justice-oriented global organization created to address the systemic injustices and inequities that persist in the global fashion industry today. \nWe address the fashion industry holistically\, which includes everything from the way we communicate sustainable fashion to how to invite global communities affected by the industry at the table. Fashion can be a hugely wasteful industry\, using excessive resources like water and textiles and over-producing clothes through trends. \nAbout Oxfam Canada:\nOxfam Canada is an affiliate of the international Oxfam Confederation networked in 87 countries as part of a global movement for change. \nOur mission is to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice\, focusing on improving lives and promoting the rights of women and girls. \nWe work directly with communities\, partners and women’s rights organizations to challenge the systems perpetuating inequality and keeping people poor. \nOur flagship\, What She Makes campaign\, advocates for Canadian fashion brands to pay a living wage to the women that make our clothes \nTogether we seek to influence those in power to ensure that women trapped in poverty have a say in the critical decisions that affect them\, their families and entire communities. \nBecause ending global poverty begins with women’s rights.

SUMMARY:Webinar on Oxfam’s Supplier Gender Toolkit
DESCRIPTION:Oxfam’s Behind the Barcodes campaign aimed to push supermarkets to respect the rights of workers in their global supply chains. Tesco became a front-runner on gender equality\, one of the scorecard’s four focus areas. As part of its gender strategy\, Tesco set a target of having at least 30% of supervisor and management positions occupied by women in all of its Tier 1 suppliers by 2025. Oxfam Business Advisory Service worked with Tesco to develop this Gender Toolkit for supplier companies to use\, helping them to understand how to take steps towards increasing women’s representation at different levels and meet this target. You can read more about the project in this blog by Jiselle Steele\, one of Oxfam’s private sector gender advisors.   \nThe Gender Toolkit\, which was developed in consultation with Tesco’s Tier 1 suppliers and workers\, offers practical guidance on approaches and activities to help companies increase the representation of women in management and supervisory positions. The toolkit highlights challenges\, opportunities and recommended actions that businesses can take across the stages of recruitment\, progression and retention to support women in the workplace. Tesco has agreed to make the toolkit available to others to learn from and implement – you can download the toolkit here.   \nTo learn more\, you are warmly invited to a webinar where you will hear from Jiselle\, who led the project\, Tania Moodley\, responsible sourcing manager at Tesco\, and Rokhsana Bilkis Lucky\, deputy general manager at Aman Knittings Ltd\, a garment company in Bangladesh who supported the development of the toolkit.   \nRegister here. \nTo receive a recording of the event\, please reach out!
