SUMMARY:Webinar on Oxfam’s Supplier Gender Toolkit
DESCRIPTION:Oxfam’s Behind the Barcodes campaign aimed to push supermarkets to respect the rights of workers in their global supply chains. Tesco became a front-runner on gender equality\, one of the scorecard’s four focus areas. As part of its gender strategy\, Tesco set a target of having at least 30% of supervisor and management positions occupied by women in all of its Tier 1 suppliers by 2025. Oxfam Business Advisory Service worked with Tesco to develop this Gender Toolkit for supplier companies to use\, helping them to understand how to take steps towards increasing women’s representation at different levels and meet this target. You can read more about the project in this blog by Jiselle Steele\, one of Oxfam’s private sector gender advisors.   \nThe Gender Toolkit\, which was developed in consultation with Tesco’s Tier 1 suppliers and workers\, offers practical guidance on approaches and activities to help companies increase the representation of women in management and supervisory positions. The toolkit highlights challenges\, opportunities and recommended actions that businesses can take across the stages of recruitment\, progression and retention to support women in the workplace. SUMMARY:Raising the bar: Regulating to end corporate abuse
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC) Mary Robinson Speaker Series\, titled “Raising the bar: Regulating corporate abuse\,” will explore the new wave of regulation that seeks to end corporate impunity while empowering communities and workers in global supply chains. Kalpona Akter\, an internationally recognized labour rights advocate\, will be the keynote speaker.  \nKalpona Akter is an internationally recognized labour rights advocate who has spent her life fighting for fair wages\, safe workplaces\, freedom of association\, and collective bargaining rights. She serves as the executive director of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity\, one of Bangladesh’s key labour rights advocacy organizations.
